Pēc kuģa avārijas, izdzīvojušie no apkalpes tiek izskaloti noslēpumainās Infant salas krastos. Šī sala ir tikusi izolēta, jo uz tās savulaik veikti kodoleksperimenti. Drīz vien šos izdzīvojušos atrod glābšanas vienība un nogādā Japānas slimnīcā.

Izrādās šie cilvēki nav pakļauti radiācijas ietekmei, un kā viņi saka, tie dzēruši vietējo iedzīvotāju dziru, kas ļāvusi tiem izdzīvot.

Šo izglābušos cilvēku stāstu, ātri vien nopublicē reportieris Seničiro Fukuda (Frankie Sakai)

Tiek nolemts, ka uz salu jāorganizē zinātniska ekspedīcija, kas pētīs vai patiešām uz salas ir iedzīvotāji un kā tie spēj izdzīvot radiācijas ietekmē. Ekspedīcijas komandā tiek iekļauti tādi vīri kā Klarks Nelsons (Jerry Ito), dakteris Harada (Ken Uehara), antropoloģists Šiniči Čūjō (Hiroshi Koizumi) un paslepus arī reportieris Fukuda.

Nonākusi uz salas šī ekspedīcijas komanda pamana vairākas dīvainības – mutāciju, divas mazas sievietes un citas lietas...Komanda vēl nezina, kas viņus sagaida salā un arī to, ka viņu komandā ir nodevējs...
