Īsi pēc ierašanās ASV, Losandželosā, Ķīnas vēstnieka Han (Tzi Ma), meita tiek nolaupīta.

Lai gan lietas izmeklēšanu savās rokās ņem FIB, vēstnieks atsauc arī palīdzību no Ķīnas – savu labu draugu, Honkongas policijas detektīvu Lī (Jackie Chan).

FIB, izdzirdot šo faktu, nav iepriecināti par nelūgto viesu, kas, pēc viņu domām, tikai traucēs lietas izmeklēšanu. FIB nolemj talkā paaicināt kādu grēkāzi no Losandžlosas policijas, kura galvenais uzdevums būtu pieskaitīt, lai Lī neiejaucas lietas izmeklēšanā.

Šis grēkāzis ir Losandžlosas „superpolicists” Džeims Kārters (Chris Tucker) – ātri runājošs, iedomīgs detektīvs, kura sapnis ir strādāt FIB labā...

Tā šie abi pavisam atšķirīgie policisti satiekas, taisa nepatikšanas un paslepus mēģina atrast vēstnieka meitu, tomēr viņu pretinieks ir Ķīnas noziedzības karalis Džuntao...
