Kazuhiro Suzuki (Seiichi Tanabe) ir jauns pilots - māceklis, kurš vēlas kļūt par pilnvērtīgu lidmašīnas kapteini un strādāt All Nippon Airways jeb ANA kompānijā. Viņš ir gatavs doties savā eksaminācijas reisā kapteiņa Norijoši Haradas (Saburo Tokito) pakļautībā.

Etsuko Saito (Haruka Ayase) ir jauna stjuarte, kura beidzot ir gatava doties savā pirmajā starptautiskajā reisā vecākās stjuartes Reiko Jamazaki (Shinobu Terajima) pakļautībā.

Abus šos cilvēkus kopā ar kolorītiem pasažieriem un tehnisko personālu vieno ANA reiss ar numuru 1980, kurš ir gatavs doties no Hanedas lidostas Tokijā, uz Honolulu, Havaju salās.

Neskatoties uz precīzo sagatavošanos un savstarpējo sadarbību starp kapteini, stjuartēm, mehāniķiem, lidojuma koordinatoriem, laika prognozētājiem un pat vienkāršiem pensionāriem, lidojums nevedās kā nākas.

Pastāv aizdomas, ka, lidmašīnas pacelšanās laikā, putni ir nodarījuši tehniskus bojājumus...
