One thing’s clear for the two of them – they’ll stay together until death us do part. One day, Kuroe collapses. An x-ray reveals something that looks like a flower bud on her right lung. An operation is performed and a water lily is removed. Fascinated, Kuroe takes the flower back to her apartment. Not long after this, Kuroe collapses once more. This time, the other lung is affected and – another lily bud is discovered. However, this time round, Kuroe refuses to have an operation and simply returns home with Kotaro. But, in order to prevent the bud from opening, she is not allowed to drink water. When Kotaro begins to notice that Kuroe’s water lily shrinks whenever it is near to other plants, he rushes off to get plenty of freshly cut flowers. He continues to do this on a regular basis until one day, he loses his job. Kotaro is frantic – where will he find the money to buy the never-ending supply of fresh flowers?
