Asuna ir centīga meitene, kas diezgan agri zaudēja savu tēvu. Asuna dzīvo kādā mazpilsētā, cītīgi mācās, tiek galā ar visiem mājas darbiem un izbauda katru brīdi, ko viņa pavada kopā ar savu māti. Par spīti savai aizņemtībai Asuna atrod laiku, ko pavadīt pie dabas krūts. Kādu dienu dodoties uz savu paslēptuvi Asuna sastop naidīgi noskaņotu radību, ko viņa redz pirmo reizi savā mūžā. No briesmām viņu izglābj noslēpumains puisis vārdā Shun. Asuna un Shun diezgan ātri sadraudzējas. Tikai ir viena nelaime Shun nav no šīs pasaules. Viņš nāk no Aghartas – pazemes valstības un nespēj ilgi izdzīvot uz zemes virsmas. Kad Asuna uzzina par Shun nāvi viņa nolemj doties uz Aghartu un atdzīvināt Shun.
